If I mention the name Cassius Tarvey I know most of us have no idea who he is. Let me tell you a little bit or maybe lets call it the whole story in a sentence. A LIFE CUT SHORT TOO SOON. A s a mother I wake up everyday brokenhearted. I go to sleep and my mind full of worries of where our children will end up at.
Today I mentioned Cassius' name and someone asked me who he was.
Today I showed someone a clip of what racism can be mentioned in the news as mistaken identity.
When Pink Floyd was murdered in the US everyone woke up to a movement dubbed BLM. But for Cassius less people have turned up. I was hoping most mothers would turn up and put it on their social media CHILDREN LIVES MATTER. It pains me the fact that we have all swept this matter under the carpets. Shouldn't we be the most vocal about this matter. Cassius didn't deserve t die as young as 15 years. Cassius in the first place didn't deserve to die because of being an Indigenous Australian.
Cassius didn't deserve to be treated any different for being who he was. Instead he deserved to be treated with respect. He deserved more than just justice. He deserved to live longer than 15years.
Saying sorry doesn't change the fact that something happened. Prevention is the best way to curb racism. Speaking up will bring the attention to the minority group that it is not okay to be treated any different for being who they are.
